Día de los Niños or Children's Day was on the calendar for September 10. The student moms on campus decided to wait until Steve and I returned from the U.S. to celebrate so we did that this past week on Tuesday.
A funny side note about this is: I was asked to bake 2 chocolate cakes for the occasion. I marked the date correctly on my calendar for Tuesday, October 7 at 3 p.m. But for some reason, when Tuesday, September 30 rolled around, I thought, "Oh, I need to make the cakes today!" So, I stayed home after lunch and did just that. I called Steve to find out where the party was so I'd know where to take them. He asked his secretary, Ruth, and she said, "The party is next week!"
Unfortunately, I'm losing my mind. Fortunately, the Baxter employees, as well as the single guys and the kitchen staff really enjoyed the cakes!
So, back to the children's party. It was great! This is an incredibly special day for the children here. They look forward to it all year long. I think the party itself must have lasted about 3 hours and, believe me, those 3 hours were packed full of funny songs, serious songs, a devotional, several prayers, games (crazy games!) eating hotdogs, chips, cake and jello, running around, opening presents, demolishing the piñata and CLOWNS!
Sinay Medina "Sigua", Gabriel Castillo and Allan Sánchez were the 3 clowns and they were non-stop funny, silly, crazy for about 2 hours! Some of the kids were scared of them...and some even cried and ran away. They all did a good job trying to get all the kids to play, but Allan, in particular, was just awesome with the kids. He would go over to them, one at a time, and say, "It's me. It's Uncle Allan. It's okay, come play with us". He succeeded with several of them.
Enough with the words. Here are photos:
