Steve and I have lived in Honduras now for a little over 4 years and, apart from our incredible trips to Roatan (3 to be exact), we really haven't taken any vacations here, just for fun.
Well, that changed last weekend! We spent the weekend in La Ceiba, Honduras at a pretty hotel called Hotel Canadien right on the Caribbean. It was a peaceful, relaxing weekend that we needed.
I'm not actually a huge outdoor person...okay, I'm not an outdoor person, and normally not a beach person either. But, I absolutely LOVED this beach and spent most of the day either swimming in the ocean or reading in the shade, within yards of the water. That third one was supposed to be a sunset but it was too cloudy. It was taken from the top of the hotel at the Restaurante Mirador where we had some great seafood!
This is what I call a "facebook shot" (meaning I took the photo). Steve calls this his "Chandler Bing" smile...
Unfortunately, getting to the beach, which is located in Sambo Creek, took 6 1/2 hours due to a tractor-trailer wreck and bridge work...but it was definitely worth it! Just wish we had been able to stay an extra day.
If you've been to Honduras, you know that people drive crazy! Even on the curvy, mountainous roads, people will pass slow-moving vehicles (or even fast-moving ones) without a clue as to what they will meet around the curve! Another thing I find interesting/annoying is that when traffic is backed up for whatever reason, cars will get out of line, using the oncoming lane to see how much farther they can get ahead. Sometimes drivers will make 3 lanes when there should only be 1! This is the case in the photo here. Now, what do you suppose they think they will do if they meet a (another) semi coming around that curve???

As we were caught in one of the traffic jams, we noticed a van in front of us with a Harding University sticker on the back! We thought it might have been someone who had gone to Harding on a Walton Scholarship and probably we would not have known them. But since that is where we both graduated from, it was neat!
By the way, the hotel is for sale if anyone is interested! The owners are in their 70's and are tired...I think one of our rich friends (do we have any of those?) should buy it and we can all spend a month or so there every year...

So glad you got to go. I have gone there a few years ago. Next time, try Trujillo. It's beautiful! glad you made it back safely. love u.
Wow! I am so happy you got to go there. You know I totally understand the drivers. everyday I have to watch out. Pedestrians NEVER have the right of way. Of course it´s kind of a given without stop signs or street lights.
I miss you Jeanne and hope to see you soon.
Much love
Laura
